FAQ for Windows Systems
How to block client to check for updates/updating?
Any older TeamSpeak 3 version will constantly ask to update. Checks are hardcoded, even
if you delete update.exe or block it using a firewall, still will check for updates.
What you have to do is go to this directory:
%WINDIR%/System32/drivers/etc
And find a file called hosts. Open the hosts.file and add these lines:
127.0.0.1 versions.teamspeak.com
127.0.0.1 files.teamspeak-services.com
So now every time TeamSpeak 3 check for updates it will fail, since it will check for the local IP
first, instead the main domain. Since the server for checking if there's a newer version won't be
located locally, it will fail every time.
In case you still want to update TeamSpeak 3, then just delete the added lines or download the new client
and update it manually.
Keep in mind the latest version of TeamSpeak 3 (3.6.2 and up) is only compatible with Windows 7
and later and thus It's not compatible with our server.
Note: For Systems like Windows XP, to edit the hosts.file, it might be required to access "Safe Mode", before any changes.
Can I install both TeamSpeak 6 and this old TeamSpeak 3 Client in my modern machine?
Yes! And the installation is pretty straight forward, since TeamSpeak 6 installs in a completely different folder in comparison to TeamSpeak 3,
so of course it will also have a different register key.
How to Install both latest TeamSpeak 3 and Old TeamSpeak 3 Clients in the same machine?
First, make sure all TeamSpeak 3 clients are closed, before proceeding. Basically, the issue happens because both installations, even installing
in different folders, still will try to replace the user data.
So for that, when you install the new TeamSpeak 3 instance, instead of choosing
"Recommended: Save in user own files", choose "Save inside the installation folder", so it will prevent the user data being replaced every time
it starts a new instance.
Keep in mind, some systems use UAC and prevent to write data in folders like "Program Files", if it doesn't have Admin permissions. To prevent that
to happen, choose a folder like "Documents" or "Downloads" so UAC won't be an issue.
